Received an estimated bill? Here’s why

On occasion, our technicians may be unable to get to your meter and physically read it. This could be due to inclement weather, overgrown vegetation near the meter, an animal in the area posing a safety risk or the meter itself being locked behind a gate. Sometimes, our technicians simply can’t make it to your home for a meter reading.

In these cases, we may need to estimate your monthly bill. This includes an estimation of the energy you would have used while taking into consideration other factors, including a comparison of your usage from the previous year and current weather conditions.

If you receive an estimated bill, it will always be clearly noted in the “Current Usage” section. Note that the estimate may be higher or lower than your actual usage that month. Any difference will be corrected on the following bill when your meter can be read. This ensures you will ultimately only be billed for the energy you actually use.

Want to reduce the chances of receiving an estimated bill? Always keep the area around your meter free of overgrown vegetation, unlock any gates leading to your meter and keep pets out of the area when your meter is due to be read. The date range for your next meter reading can be found at the top of your monthly bill.
