Supporting the community – outreach in your area

Our employees assist the communities in our service areas through a variety of ways. Whether it’s raising money or volunteering time, our workforce lends a helping hand. Here are a few causes we have supported this year:

  • For the 21st year, company employees joined together for some friendly competition at the Annual “Bowl for JA” in Louisville. More than 240 employees bowled to raise money to support the efforts of company partner Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana, which supports 18 counties in Kentucky. This year’s Bowl for JA was also record-breaking. Participating teams raised nearly $35,000, surpassing the highest prior record ($28,500 in 2023).
  • The LG&E and KU Foundation supports many organizations in the communities we serve, including those in the KU territory. The foundation is proud to be a longtime supporter of God’s Pantry Food Bank, which supports food pantries and programs to reduce hunger across Kentucky communities. Through a network of partners, God’s Pantry works to ensure those who live in Central and Eastern Kentucky have access to nutritious food. In 2023, they distributed more than 43 million pounds of food, providing more than 36 million meals to those in need.
  • Feeding Southwest Virginia is a food bank that has been addressing food insecurity in Southwest Virginia for 42 years and is the largest supplier of charitable food assistance in the region. Feeding SWVA’s Mobile Food Pantry also delivers and distributes charitable food free of charge in Lee and Dickenson counties, and the Mobile Marketplace provides low-cost groceries in Lee, Dickenson and Russell counties.
  • The Science Museum of Western Virginia provides free admission to EBT cardholders and educates over 30,000 students each year, offering quality STEM education and ensuring students stay engaged, educated and inspired. Its mission is to guarantee that everyone, regardless of socio-economic background, has the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge STEM education.
