Take care in the open air – Your outdoor electrical safety reminder

April 21, 2025

With winter’s chill in the past, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. But whether you’re working or playing in the open air this summer, remembering these simple outdoor electrical safety do’s and don’ts will help keep you safe all season long.

DO:

  • Always be aware of the location of overhead and underground power lines to avoid injury.
  • Be alert when working in the vicinity of power lines.
  • Contact 811 before you dig. Visit lge-ku.com/811 for more information. Once the area is marked, stay clear of the lines when completing your project.
  • Only use electrical products specifically marked for outdoor use.

DON’T:

  • Do not go near or touch downed power lines or other damaged electrical equipment.
  • Do not use outdoor portable electrical tools or appliances when wet or standing in water.
  • Do not climb or play around trees that are close to power lines.
  • Do not drive over downed power lines. If a line falls on your vehicle, don’t get out (unless you’re in more danger staying in the vehicle). Call 911.
