Company recognized among an elite group for economic growth.

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – International economic development publication Site Selection has named LG&E and KU a “Top Utility” for economic development activities in 2024. This marks the company’s twelfth time receiving a top ranking since 2012.

Site Selection recognizes top utilities based on project investments and job creation in the utilities’ territories during the previous calendar year and calculates the projects’ jobs and capital investment numbers on a cumulative and per-capita basis.

“LG&E and KU’s competitive rates, excellent reliability and a focus on the customer give us a strong edge when it comes to business attraction, expansion and retention,” said LG&E and KU President John Crockett. “It is an honor to once again be recognized for the role we play in growing Kentucky’s economy and bringing prosperity to the communities we proudly serve.”

In 2024, LG&E and KU supported 76 projects in which companies announced growth opportunities to invest nearly $2.8 billion in their communities, adding 3,113 jobs at those facilities. Companies in the LG&E and KU service territories accounted for 45% of statewide investment announcements, with 39% of the investments and 34% of the jobs landing in the company’s service territories. The investments touched a wide range of industries, including advanced manufacturing, EV battery production, logistics, healthcare, metals, food and beverage, agri-tech, and bourbon distilling.

In addition, the company strengthened local engagement through a quarterly Opportunity Kentucky e-newsletter and targeted digital advertising to directly reach site consultants and key stakeholders. The 2024 advertising campaign, Bettering Businesses, spanned digital ads, streaming audio, streaming TV, social media, and print placements in key business publications, and native content—resulting in more than 27 million impressions and 41,000 site visits, far exceeding industry engagement benchmarks.

Site Selection magazine is an industry trade publication that highlights economic development topics including site location, workforce development, and industry sector topics for private-sector companies, targeting site selection-consultants and economic developers all over the U.S. and abroad.
