Right tree. Right space. Right move.

A new tree can bring beauty and shade to your property. But you should always think ahead and choose the right types of trees for the right planting spots on your property.

For example, some trees can grow to be more than 100 feet tall. And if it’s planted in the wrong spot, that little sapling will eventually cause big problems with overhead transmission and distribution lines.

Also consider underground distribution lines. To avoid issues, always plant at least eight feet from the front and two feet on either side of the transformer (the green rectangular box located near a property line).

Help find which trees work best for your property. Also check out additional information about planting trees near transmission and distribution lines.

And remember, always contact 811 before you dig to mark underground utility lines.
