  • Get $50 per appliance
  • Easy and convenient haul-away
  • Proper recycling
  • Save energy and money

Do you have an older, working refrigerator or freezer chugging away in your basement or garage? Chances are, it’s wasting energy! According to ENERGY STAR®, refrigerators 15 years or older use twice as much energy as a new ENERGY STAR certified model.

The Fridge and Freezer Recycling Program helps residential customers haul away and properly recycle old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers. In return for reducing energy consumption and recycling the appliances, customers will receive $50 per appliance.

See how it works.

Eligibility requirements

LG&E and KU residential electric customers may participate in this program. To be eligible, the refrigerator or freezer must be:

  • full-size (at least 7.75 cubic feet or larger),
  • operational,
  • empty, and
  • accessible for removal.

Small “dorm-style” refrigerators do not qualify. Customers can schedule a pick-up time to have a trained team remove and recycle up to two inefficient, qualified appliances at their convenience in the same calendar year.
